Abstract

This study provides a detailed analysis of the ridership trends for the Dubai Metro, looking at usage trends on hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly basis over several years. There are a number of important variables that affect ridership, such as commuter behavior, seasonal variations, and the effects of big events like COP28 and Expo 2020.The study highlights how changes in the weekend structure in Dubai, have significantly affected metro usage, particularly by shifting the peak commuter activity to Friday. Additionally, the influence of external factors, such as cooler weather and global events, resulted in increased ridership during November and December. This analysis uses Python-based tools to process and visualize large ridership datasets, offering insights that are crucial for optimizing metro operations and preparing for future demand. These insights can help transportation authority's better forecast ridership trends, allocate resources more effectively, and improve overall service quality. The study highlights the need for strategic planning in rapidly growing urban areas, particularly in response to external factors such as major events and population growth.
