Chemistry, electrochemistry, molecular modelling and materials for health

Portrait of Guillaume Herlem

Profile

Guillaume Herlem is a founding member of the Nanomedicine laboratory, established in 2012 and renamed SINERGIES in 2018. His experimental and modelling research focuses on elucidating new chemical and electrochemical reactions and investigating their mechanisms, particularly through ab initio molecular dynamics.

Education and experience

Guillaume Herlem holds a postgraduate degree in “From Molecules to Materials” from Pierre and Marie Curie University and a PhD in physical chemistry from the University of Franche-Comté. He also completed the HERCULES programme on the use of large-scale scientific facilities and holds the French accreditation to supervise research (HDR) from the University of Franche-Comté.

Research and teaching

His work combines chemistry and electrochemistry for health, the functionalisation of ePTFE prostheses, antibacterial coating grafting, sensors and biosensors, hyperspectral and thermal imaging, molecular modelling and docking. His methods include XPS, NMR, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy, non-aqueous electrochemistry, atomic force microscopy and scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM).
